FAMILY DAY EVENT!

We have jammed out at Albert Campbell Square before with our long time partners YOUnited, and now the City of Toronto is taking over the space for Family day. The event features Obie, Scratch Lab, Vox Sambou, DJ The Niceness, Lal, Maryem Tollar, The Gonrah Desgohwah White Pine Dancers, + much more. Get all info after the jump.

MAIN STAGE:

Obie
An intimate acoustic performance with Obie, the street savvy R&B singer who writes about injustice, respect, love, beating the odds and building your own future. A native of Jamaica, now based in Toronto, this 23-year-old has a perspective that gives his hip-hop-tinged soul an edge.

Scratch Lab
Participate in a DJing workshop with Scratch Lab, Canada's first and premier facility for training DJs! Listen to some amazing music, watch a scratching demo from the pros and learn how to scratch with the Scratch Lab DJ Institute!

Vox Sambou
Join Montreal's own Vox Sambou as the French and Haitian artist takes you through a musical tribute to Black History Month. A key hip-hop figure in Montreal, Vox Sambou is a founding member of the international crew Nomadic Massive. His music brings light to the injustices taking place worldwide and particularly in Haiti.

DJ The Niceness
The Niceness brings over a decade of experience to the turntables, mixing through musical boundaries and across genres. At present he balances his DJ career with a management position at Scratch Lab DJ Institute. The Niceness celebrates Family Day with his top 40, R&B and house remixes.

Grand Finale
The Scarborough Family Day festivities will end with an original grand finale performance that celebrates our city's diverse cultures:

Aline Morales
Singing sensation Aline Morales leads an interactive Brazilian drumming performance starting from the Main Stage.

ROUND STAGE:

The Gonrah Desgohwah White Pine Dancers
Dedicated to sharing their gifts of song, dance and stories of First Nations culture with international as well as local audiences, this group of family and friends perform a tribute to our First Nations Peoples. (www.ojibwaystoryteller.com/whitepine/WhitePine.html)

Raging Asian Women (RAW)
RAW is a diverse collective of East and South-East Asian women carrying on the North American Taiko drumming tradition. This group integrates rhythm and movement that will set your heart pounding. (www.ragingasianwomen.ca/index2.html)

ON THE SQUARE:

Bollywood on Ice Skate with the Sanskriti Arts Ensemble as they take to the ice to show off their South Asian fusion moves. (www.sanskritiarts.ca)

Goodness Gracious
This Toronto-based dance entertainment company brings some heat to the square with their exhilarating and dramatic fire dancing performances. (www.goodnessgracious.ca/about.htm)
