Day 3Wednesday

presented in association with

Filmfest.

This year’s double-feature filmfest showcases two moving and timely films that resonate both locally and globally. Through the stories of a bboy in Uganda and two young men from Toronto’s Regent Park, these films delve into the power of arts and culture to transform, heal, and empower – and give voice to the experiences and challenges faced by racialized minorities in urban society.

INVISIBLE CITY

7:30 PM Directed by Hubert Davis

In the inner-city housing project of Toronto’s Regent Park, Kendell and Mikey, like their surroundings are in the process of transformation; the environment and social pressure tempting them to make poor choices, their mothers and mentors rooting for them to succeed. Turning his camera on the often ignored inner city, Academy-award nominated director Hubert Davis sensitively depicts the disconnection of urban poverty and race from the mainstream.

BOUNCING CATS

9:30 PM Directed by Nabil Elderkin

Bouncing Cats is the inspiring story of one man’s attempt to create a better life for the children of Uganda using the unlikely tool of hip hop with a focus on b-boy culture and breakdance. The film follows Abraham “Abramz” Tekya, a Ugandan b-boy and A.I.D.S. orphan, Crazy Legs, and Breakdance Project Uganda on a journey to use hip-hop culture for positive social change, and features narration by Common and interviews with Mos Def, Will.I.Am, and K’naan.
