L.I.V.E. Hip Hop Festival @ Ryerson University

L.I.V.E. (Live to Inspire Via Education) Hip Hop Festival at Ryerson University is the FIRST-EVER, education-focused hip hop festival in Canada, entirely run by students.

Local and international artists and educators will treat attendees to captivating exhibits, live artistic demonstrations, thought-provoking discussions, a fashion show and concert.

This groundbreaking event is open to EVERYONE.

FREE ENTRANCE with canned/non-perishable food and/or clothing donation(s).

Monday, February 28
***The Official Kickoff***

1:00pm: L.I.V.E. Graffiti

Loko & Miigizi will craft a mural live on Gould Street at Ryerson.

6:00pm-9:00pm: L.I.V.E. Art & Talk

Ryerson Professor and Artist David Brame will talk Hip Hop and treat attendees to live art.

Pioneering Hip Hop Photographer and Icon, Ernie Paniccioli, will present some of his timeless pieces, talk about the early days of Hip Hop in New York and facilitate a discussion with the audience.

Tuesday, March 1
***L.I.V.E. Rap Sessions***

5:00pm: Marketplace opens and L.I.V.E. Graffiti continues w/ Loko & Miigizi

5:30pm-7:00pm: Hip Hop & the Educational Institution
- examining the countless ways Hip Hop generates educational value, is a teachable academic course and at its core, defies the barriers of conventional pedagogy

AND Hip Hop & the Streets
- grassroots education through the Hip Hop lens

7:00pm-8:30pm: Making the Connection: Hip Hop & Diasporas
(African, Latin American, Caribbean)

AND African Drumming, Jazz, Blues, Disco & Funk
- musical elements that undeniably shaped Hip Hop as a genre

8:30pm-10:00pm: Pioneers of Hip Hop in Canada
- blazing trails since the 80s, from the west coast to the east coast

7:00pm-8:30pm: French Hip Hop around the World w/ Members of Nomadic Massive

7:00pm-8:30pm: Hip Hop HERstories w/ Mel Boogie, Michie Mee, Isis & Motion
- exploring facts and narratives (femcees, female DJs and more)

8:30pm-10:00pm: The Queer Community & Hip Hop w/ Joseph “Deadlee” Lee
- marginalization, misuse of language in lyrics, Homo Hop subgenre/movement and more

Friday, March 4
