Manifesto Jamaica | Omega Vibration

International Collaboration For The next OMEGA VIBRATION

On Friday October 15, 2010 Kingston, Jamaica will be moved once again by The Omega Vibration - the Kingston meets Toronto Edition. Through spoken word, music, visual art and dance, a contingency of talented Canadian artistes will collaborate with some of Jamaica’s most dynamic and prolific female artists. This second staging of The Omega Vibration will treat patrons to a magical cross-cultural experience. The production will be staged at the Dennis Scott Theatre at the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts, starting at 6pm.

The Omega Vibration is one of the main events on the roster for Manifesto|Jamaica’s Festival of ART’ical Empowerment being held from October 14 to 17 on the Edna Manley Campus. According to event organizer, creative director and host, Janine ‘Jah9’ Cunningham’, “Omega Vibration represents the power women possess to inspire, change and make impact through artistic expression. It is a complete production that will explore the essence of the feminine perspective: Uncensored. Unapologetic. Unafraid”.

The event is supported by Manifesto Community Projects (Toronto), a sister entity to Manifesto Jamaica. "WOMANIFESTO! I feel like screaming this in the streets...this truly is and always has been the woman's revolution and us men just need to be reminded to recognize our supporting role in it!" said Executive Director of Manifesto Canada, Che Kothari, who will be in Jamaica along with other members of the Toronto family to celebrate the festival’s inaugural year in Jamaica. “Jamaican Funk Empress of Toronto Michie Mee, hair-raising Jamaican dub poet D'bi Young, plus the hard-hitting Motion, Masia and DJ L'oqenz representing Toronto in Kingston is really taking things to a whole new level. This has the potential to birth partnerships that can foster a community of healing and love. I hope Kingston is ready for the pure fiyah Toronto is planning to unleash,” Kothari commented.

The event will feature local acts like of Racquel Jones, Sabriya Simon, Yashika Graham and Kai Falconer (poets); Mystic Davis (Dancer/Choreographer); Sherieta Lewis (Singer/Songwriter); Monique Lofters (Visual Artist), and ZJ Sparks of Zip FM, among others. Limited presold tickets will be available for $1500. Proceeds are in aid of Manifesto Jamaica’s community impact initiatives.
