About Up In Your Business

Toronto’s arts community includes a growing number of young entrepreneurs who are running their own businesses as promoters, MC’s, managers, filmmakers, graphic and fashion designers, visual artists, producers, and more. These entrepreneurs are essential to the vitality and sustainability of the cultural industries in Canada and worldwide.

Up In Your Business is a program dedicated to supporting this scene and is once again taking place as a part of the Manifesto Festival of Music, Art & Culture in September. Although Up in Your Business is a multi-part program, one major component of the program is:

The Freshest Goods Market

Sunday Sept 26th at Yonge & Dundas Square.

Young entrepreneurs will set up booths to showcase their business and sell their wares at Nathan Phillips Square on Sunday, September 26, 2010. The day will also include a major outdoor concert. The event will be a significant sales, promotion and networking opportunity. Cultural industry representatives and heavyweights will be in attendance.

Up In Your Business wants to support youth to pursue their aspirations in the art of business. If you are a young arts entrepreneur between the ages of 16 and 30, register now – space is limited.

As a result of community feedback, this year Manifesto is offering three types of spaces to showcase yourself, your organization, or your brand! All three types will provide you with a great platform, but they're designed to provide opportunities for both more established applicants and maintain accessibility for existing ones.

To apply, you must be:

• An entrepreneur or part of a group of entrepreneurs working in the fields of urban arts (including music, film/video or fashion)
• Developing or running your own business
• Between the ages of 16 and 30

Process:

To participate, you must:

• Fill out the registration form
• Provide a 500 word (max) description of your business (the committee will stop reading after 500 words)
• Pay the applicable fee for your selected table type immediately upon confirmation of your registration. You will be notified via email of the acceptance of your application by our Up In Your Business committee, including payment instructions, no later than August 24th, 2010. (Payable in cash or by certified cheque ONLY. Registrations will be cancelled if payment is not received before Tuesday, September 1st)

PART 2: Background Information

1. Tell us more about your business (You may want to describe: What are you selling? Describe the target market. What is your distribution plan? Describe your current status and future plans?). This will be used on themanifesto.ca if applicable. max. # of 500 words or roughly 2000 characters(required)
2. The City of Toronto requires approval of all items and sold on the square as well as any materials that will be distributed. Please prepare a complete itemized price list, with sample photos of each item, in Word and upload the document here. Include in this document any literature from materials that will be handed out.(required)
